Macie slept well three days last week. Correspondingly, I managed to get three days of consistent workout in. We took the pacifier away on Friday (12/5). Almost immediately Macie started sleeping through the night. So for 4 out of 7 days she has slept through the night (including last night). I would have gotten several other workouts in this weekend; however, I was trying to get a million chores completed and ran out of time. I am still looking for a good software to track workouts with. So far Sportstracks, Fitday, and Sparkpeople are the leaders. I have tried Sportstracks before and it works with my Garmin. I usually end up using a bunch of different spread sheets to track workouts other than running or biking, as well as, diet and weight lifting. So I would like to find something that combines it all.

Is there a good plug-in for tracking workout and diet? If not what web-site or software would anyone recommend? I have been looking at several different ones and cant really decide.

I did the Crazy 8 Body Weight Circuit last night. I am really sore. I also fell on the ice twice yesterday during my run so that is a contributing factor. The whole thing took just 20 minutes. I only did 2 rounds. The first round was abbreviated because I wasn’t sure how far I could go. Second round I did almost all of them. Push-ups were the deficient in that I only did 6. I spent 30minutes on the recumbent bike this morning. Each of the recumbent bike sessions have included 2 sets of 5 minute speed session (10 seconds max, 20 seconds rest). All that being said I am not losing any weight. I really need to find the time to track calories, but don’t seem to be able to count calories, exercise, hang with family, work and blog at the same time.

It is in some respects what I would like to achieve. I haven’t been talking much about my workouts. But so far this week I have worked out for a few minutes every day. Recumbent Bike for 30 min, pullups, pushups, dips in am, situps, pushups, and jump rope (in pm) on Monday, Elliptical machine for 30 min pullups, pushups, dips (in am), situps, pushups, jump rope (in pm) on Tuesday, 6 miles running this morning. I had the discussion with Kim last night about going to the gym. She still really wants to go. I haven’t gone in years because of the waste of commute time. I have an elliptical, a recumbent bike, dumbbells and barbells in the basement for years. So the 15 minute workout, power 1/2 hour, etc. are great for me and work best in my schedule.

Interesting article on NY Times

To summarize, Americans overestimate calories of a meal when labeled low fat or some other healthy adjective. Foreigners do not make the same mistake.

Sorry I haven’t posted in a while, but I have been on vacation. It was very much needed, as the family and myself were worn out. We went on a cruise. This is a very inexpensive way to vacation for about $100/day per person. I wouldn’t recommend for those lacking in self control because there is food available at all times, deserts and ice cream, gambling and liquor.
Usually I lose weight on vacation. I must confess I stayed the same and am still 177 lbs. I managed to get in a mile of swimming, 10 miles of measured running, many more miles of walking and 25 miles of biking. I think more importantly I slept. Usually after 2-3 days of being on vacation I get into 7-8 hour of sleep rhythm. Not this vacation.
I predicted prior to the vacation that Macie would end up sleeping with me for the entire vacation and the prediction came true. Not sure what the deal is but this has been the case with the other 2 and now all three kids. They just end up sleeping with me. To say that I slept 9-10 hours would not be true as I was kicked in the head and regularly woken up frequently by brief cries of fright that needed a quick reassurance before going quickly back to sleep. So I was forced to get some needed rest by hanging with the baby until she was ready to get up. Additionally, I took some naps with her.
So it was an awesome vacation with a little exercise, some hanging at the beach and snorkeling. I ate a lot of fish and fresh melon. Most importantly I got plenty of rest.
