101 Fever and Milk

Macie had 101° F on Friday night.  I have always heard “don’t give milk to a child with a fever; it will curdle in their stomach”.  Kim and I were discussing and to her it didn’t make any sense because she could still breast feed Macie when she was sick.  So some quick research on the net (Milk and Fevers or Milk OK with Fever?) confirmed that a baby needs to get fluids and milk is fine.  If there is vomiting or diarrhea, Pedialyte or Gatorade is preferred.  There are still many references on the web that say do not give milk with a fever but they do not seem to be supported by a doctor or references.

Exercise is a funny thing for me

Exercise is a funny thing for me.  I love it when I am running.  Sometimes, when I am trying to start running I hate it and don’t want to do it.  Yesterday was one of those days.  I made up my mind to get out and go for a run when I got home.  As I walked to the car, after work, it was cold.  I came home and dinner was ready, but I hate to run with food.  Kim wanted to eat dinner.  The Jordan came home and he wanted to eat dinner.  While they were eating I was getting ready to run.  Changing clothes (not in front of them) then came down stairs and talked while looking for gloves, getting the garmin set up, putting the orthotics in the running shoes, and getting Macie bundled up for the run.  When I was done Kim said that she wanted to go.  This has been a problem since she got pregnant and had the baby, the timing for exercising together never works.  We (or I) decided I should just go.  I got out side and thought it was freezing, but within a mile it felt wonderful and the gloves came off.  After three the ear warmer had to come off.  I only ran five but of course could have gone for more.  It was great and relieved a bunch of stress from the day.

Saturday should be a 30 minute swim and 15 mile bike ride.  Sunday will be a 10 mile run.  It is supposed to be raining so I will need to time it tight.

Question for today is how do you coordinate exercise with your spouse or significant other?

Middle School Football

Last night was Jordan’s football championship game.  He spent most of the season standing the sidelines.  So did most of the rest of the team.  He was first string on kick-offs; however, he was 2nd or third string for defense and offense.  As a result he got very little playing time on the field.  I told him to talk the coach about how to get more playing time but clearly Jordan was uncomfortable with that.  Jordan just said I know I just need to play better.  Hmm, from what I could tell there were only just a couple of outstanding players on the team and most of the rest were more or less inter-changeable.

It appears that lack of playing time is more a function of the coach’s ability to effectively swap players during game play.  So for the coaches to be able to effectively swap players, they just assign 1st, 2nd and 3rd string and the players on 2nd and 3rd string rarely get to play.  When I coached soccer all players got to play and I tried to balance the team, at any one time with strong players.  But also I had far fewer players to choose from.

So the question is: For middle school football what is the method for getting more playing time?  Is it attending every camp and conditioning camp in order to play better?  Is it politics?  Is it shear talent?  I know for sure it is some combination of all three.  What suggestions does anyone have?  Thanks

174 and Food Poisoning

1 day of food poisoning and I loose 3 pounds.  This leads to unhealthy thoughts about how to solve weight problems. :)

177.5 and intestinal pain

Hard to work out or blog when the baby is up all night and you wake up with intestinal pain.  Good news is a couple days of this and I will definitely loose some weight.

178 Pounds Eeek.

Well I am back up to 178.  2 weeks of not really running and this is what happens.  I will  start back on 2000 calories a day until I get 5 pounds off.  The target is b/w 165 and 170 depending on how the muscle is distributed.  However, the other 5 pounds takes serious aerobic exercise (as in training for a marathon).  I will need to figure out how to get pics on the blog (even though I am not really proud of them) so I can show progress.  Let me know in comments if you have a good way (and instruction for how to) on attaching pics to the blog.

Vomiting

Macie hasnt felt well the last couple of days.  She spit up a little on Friday night, but I didnt think much of it.  Saturday after church she vomitted while we were trying to eat dinner.  I wasnt to sure about that one.  She had stuffed a big piece pasta in her mouth then gagged on it.  So I thought maybe it was just a fluke.   This morning at 4:00am she threw up in her crib.  So something is wrong but I am not sure what.  Neither Juliet nor Jordan ever vommited much so I am in new territory.    Anyway according to this article on baby vomiting it shouldnt be a big deal.  We need to keep an eye on it and make sure she has Pedialyte available to sip on.  I had to go to work so I will need to check in as the day goes on.

Sunday Chores

So Sunday always seems to be chores day.  Sometimes there is a lot, sometimes there are a little.  I was supposed to run 8 miles; however, the morning was spent working on putting a couple of items on Craig’s List and looking for a sandbox.  The afternoon shopping for groceries and putting groceries away.  The rest of the day was spent cleaning and fixing a computer so that I could sell it.  It is amazing to me how long it can take to clean up a computer.  I probably could have tucked a run in there somewhere but didnt.  We did walk the dog and Macie for an hour so that counts for a little.

This is the first post.  There are multiple events today.  Swam for 30 minutes.    I need to do a better job of keeping track of how far I swim as well.  I believe I swam for 400 Yards.  Like I said need to do a better job of keeping track.  Kim mowed the lawn while I watched Macie.  Macie has been tired today and took a nap at 11:00.  Still on the agenda is to get a Play Set for Macie.  Got to Church and dinner.

Need to work on getting diet log into blog.
