Run For Pizza

Family, Fitness and Diet?

I am back at it w00t

So I have been back to working out for the last couple of weeks.  Been going to gym regularly (Sure helps that Mrs. tripolii wants to go to the gym again) and started P90X again this week.  Kinda depressing how much my strength has deteriorated and weight has increased over last 2 years.  See weight below from when I was tracking calories (and weight):

Sep 07 – 178 lbs

Jan 08 – 179

Feb 08 – 174

Apr 08 – 174

Apr 09 – 178

Dec 08 – 182

Just proves what isnt measured isnt managed for me.  It would be nice to just eat and not count calories and maintain my weight; however, I dont seem to be able to do that.  So I am back to counting calories again as well.

Ok TTFN (TaTa for Now – watching to much Winnie the Pooh with the 2 year old :) )

Sushi

I love sushi. Not really sure why. I have noticed that other runners and tri-athletes like sushi as well. Particularly if it is made with brown rice.
Once a quarter (give or take), it gives me some sort of low grade food poisoning. Made Mrs. Tripolii mad this week end because I was ill again. It lasts for about a day. Just bad enough to make me hang out and do nothing for a day. It seems almost suspiciously coincident with the weekend. Unfortunately, Saturday it rained and Sunday which was ok, I was ill all day and did nothing. No running, biking or chores. I made an effort and went to see Mrs. Tripolii at work, but the weekend was a waste.

Study Zeroes In on Calories, Not Diet, for Loss

Cue the game show loser sound. It doesn’t matter (for weight loss) which diet your are on as long as your calories expended are greater than the calories you bring in.

Dieting? Put Your Money Where Your Fat Is

Article in the NY Times. It reminded me the first time (and hopefully only time) that I needed to lose weight I did it as a competition with others at the office. We didn’t bet on it, but did keep track of the progress and posted it on the wall. It kept everyone motivated. Betting would certainly be a motivator for some groups.

Top 10 Foods for Endurance Athletes

Good list of foods, with a couple I have never heard of. Namely Quinoa, Cacao, Hemp and Maca.

Back from the holidays

It is 13 weeks till Martian marathon and I have been barely training.  I got my schedule laid out for the marathon, but then got sick and laid off for about 5 days.  I usually don’t lay off working out when I am sick; however, this time it happened for whatever reason.  I also lost about 5 pounds over the holidays (which just gets me back to need to lose about 5-10 more).  I lost without even trying.  This happens every holiday which points to stress eating at work as being a big problem.  I will need to find other alternatives to prevent stress eating from occurring.

Work out this morning was 30 minutes on recumbent bike with 15 minutes of sprints.

Americans overestimate calories because of “Health Halo”

Interesting article on NY Times

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/02/science/02tier.html

To summarize, Americans overestimate calories of a meal when labeled low fat or some other healthy adjective.  Foreigners do not make the same mistake.
